Ask Me Anything ALS: Genetic Testing

Why do some asymptomatic individuals consider ALS genetic testing? Why do some symptomatic individuals consider it? The decision is a personal one, and there are professionals to help us through the process: ALS neurologists and ALS genetic counselors. It can also be helpful to hear from individuals who have reached their own decisions.

Join the ALS community, including an ALS genetic counselor, for a conversation on genetic testing to learn more about why some people get tested and others don’t, the role genetic counselors play, and the good as well as the difficult realities of receiving the results.

Wednesday, August 23 ⋅ 6:00 – 7:00pm ET

Panelists will include:

  • Tara Jones, Genetic Counselor at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center
  • Julie Granning, SOD1 familial ALS member
  • Tucker Olson, SOD1 familial ALS member
  • Patricia Manhardt, living with ALS
  • Juan Reyes, living with ALS
  • Debbie Lower, C9orf72 familial ALS member
