I am Yvette Wilson

living with ALS

New Mexico

Much of my endeavors are accomplished using only the movements of my eyes, including this piece.

I’m a 50-year-old woman who is living with ALS, breathes with the assistance of a trach and ventilator, and is nearly paralyzed and wheelchair-bound. Most of my endeavors are accomplished using only the movements of my eyes, including this piece. (Modern technology is a wonderful thing.) One may look at me and feel nothing but pity, and many actually have. They simply don’t see all that I am, all the blessings in my life, all that I’m grateful for. 1. I am alive. 2. I love deeply and am loved equally in return. 3. I have purpose and find profound meaning in life. 4. I’m able to be of help and service to others and remain surprisingly productive. 5. I have the loving, unconditional support and care I need to survive.
