I am Tina DeAvilla

living with ALS

Oregon

I have an amazing support system. The best family and friends who rally around me daily -- a true army beside me.

I was diagnosed in 2020 with limb onset ALS after 18 months of testing and a process of elimination. I had been a hairdresser for 30 years with a thriving business. Active in my community and church. A go getter. I traveled non stop.

That has been the hardest part, not being able to walk, stand, cook, drive. And most of all not able to work. But ALS has given me a new passion, to advocate for ALS awareness, treatments and a cure. I am active in my state and community to bring awareness to ALS.

I have an amazing support system. The best family and friends who rally around me daily — a true army beside me. My husband of 20 years is my caregiver and I could not live this journey without him. He has sacrificed his retirement to take care of me and never complains, even on the hard days. Thankful to have a daughter who is a nurse to help us too. This journey is tough, but I find joy in everyday. My faith in my Lord and Savior also gives me strength.
