I am Terry Stewart

a family member of someone living with ALS

Ohio

It won't be our last #LouGehrigDay. And we are in this fight with all of you to win.

My brother was diagnosed with ALS, ironically enough on Lou Gehrig’s birthday on June 19, 2020. His name is Jon Stewart. He was only 37 at the time. He did everything right and made healthy choices. He stayed active.

This came out of nowhere and I’m ashamed to admit that I knew very little about this disease. It’s crazy how much you can learn in a year. I can’t believe this evil has been around for as long as it has and we haven’t even made a dent. I didn’t know I could hate until now. I don’t think I ever felt true hate before this. But I can say for certain that I HATE ALS with all that I am.

I’m so glad that we can finally recognize it on the stage it’s been put on today. It was our first #LouGehrigDay and we attended a Pittsburgh Pirates game against Miami. The Buccos won and my nephew (whose dad is living with this nightmare) even caught a foul ball. It won’t be our last #LouGehrigDay. And we are in this fight with all of you to win.
