I am Matthew Orman

a family member of someone we've lost to ALS

Arizona

Every time I put my flight gear on I think of him and know he’s there with me while I fly.

In October 2014 I found out my father and best friend was diagnosed with ALS. I was stationed at the time at MCAS Miramar learning to fly the F/A-18 and at that moment, driving on the I-5 to MCRD San Diego for a workout. It was a Saturday morning and I remember sitting in my car crying for almost an hour.

From that day forward I did everything I could to make my Dad proud in his final years, months, and finally days. Every time I put my flight gear on I think of him and know he’s there with me while I fly.
