I am Jessica Berge

a friend of someone we've lost to ALS

Washington

He was strong, and fought until the end, which inevitably came too soon.

When I was 16 my first job was being a ski instructor. There I met Dave. We quickly bonded over our ski race backgrounds, and he told me about how he had hiked the Himalayas, skied the world, and his past racing career. He brightened up the ski hill with his jokes and never took himself too seriously.

As the seasons went on, it was harder for him to instruct. At one point, we would tape his ski poles to his hands so he could ski with them. He was strong, and fought until the end, which inevitably came too soon.
