I am Duncan McDonald

a friend of someone living with ALS

Canada

By the end of the season we came within a game of winning the championship and while I don't remember the coach, I have never forgotten his style.

Baseball was my 10 year old self. We were the Bad News Bears of baseball in 1970 in Niagara Falls.

Our coach let us try all positions… I was the best pitcher the other teams had. They hit me like a bad dog.

Our coach believed in us and if he thought we played hard, he took the whole team to the corner store for a pop. I remember we lost a game 25-3 and he took us because we tried. By the end of the season we came within a game of winning the championship and while I don’t remember the coach, I have never forgotten his style.

That summer my parents divorced and I never played an organized game again, but I love the game and the summer is etched in my mind.
