Mom lived with ALS with tremendous courage and grace. She was and still is an inspiration to me.

Happy Heavenly Mother’s Day to my Mom and best friend, Karen! This is a photo of her at her first ALS Walk in 2007. We lost her 2 years later at the age of 65. She was the fourth of six family members we have lost to ALS (some had FTD too).

My Mom was an amazing person; she never complained once about ALS. Instead, when she first showed symptoms, she said, “I only hope I can handle this the way Aunt Jean did.” And she did! She lived each day to the fullest, planting flowers while she still could, cooking dinners for my stepdad while she still could (even when she couldn’t eat them any longer), watching her favorite TV shows (Ellen and some on the Food Network), and enjoying visitors.

Mom lived with ALS with tremendous courage and grace. She was and still is an inspiration to me. Love you Mama.
