Despite the fact we are Giants fans, we always support the home team as well, so we attended a few Rays games and loved the nostalgia of going together.

I grew up in California, raised by a single dad in the San Francisco Bay area. One of our favorite things to do together was go to baseball games, whether it be the Giants or the A’s. We attended more games together than I could count over the years.

My father was diagnosed with ALS in 2009 while living in Florida. Despite the fact we are Giants fans, we always support the home team as well, so we attended a few Rays games and loved the nostalgia of going together. In 2013, at an ALS awareness game, my daughter was chosen as the honorary ball girl so my dad, her, and I were able to go down on the field and meet many of the players. We also sang Take Me Out to the Ball Game during the 7th inning stretch and were on the jumbotron. It was an incredible experience.

In 2016, I was able to give my dad the best surprise ever. It just so happened that by miraculous chance not only did the Giants come to Florida to play the Rays, but it was on Father’s Day! I did not tell my dad what we were doing or where we were going and completely surprised him. When we first got there he was happy to be at the Trop, but then we went in and he saw the Giants and it brought tears to his eyes as I said “Happy Father’s Day!!”
