Credit for Caring Act of 2025

The United States is experiencing a caregiver crisis. Caregiving is time-consuming, mentally and emotionally overwhelming, physically taxing, and expensive. As ALS progresses, the costs associated with caregiving increase. This is not surprising to anyone who has been impacted by ALS.

The bipartisan Credit for Caring Act of 2025 would provide relief in the form of a new, non-refundable federal tax credit of up to $5,000 for eligible working family caregivers.

Here’s how it would work:

  • The Credit for Caring ACT provides people with a $5,000 tax credit for caregiving-related expenses. Here is how it works: the taxpayer must first spend $2,000 on caregiving expenses. Once $2,000 is spent, 30% of all eligible expenses count towards a tax credit. Taxpayers cannot receive more than $5,000 in tax credit from this program.
  • For example, if a taxpayer spent $10,000 on eligible caregiving expenses, they would earn $2,400 in tax credit. $10,000 minus $2,000 is $8,000. $8,000 times 30% is $2,400.
  • To qualify for this full tax credit, single filers must make under $75,000/year and married taxpayers filing jointly under $150,000/year.

By filling out this form you will send a message to your representative and two senators asking them to cosponsor this bill, and offer some financial relief for caregivers.
