A Pulmonologist Explains Tracheostomy and Invasive Ventilation for People Living with ALS

June 19, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Date/Time: Monday, June 19, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. CST

About the Program: Not everyone with ALS will need or choose to have a tracheostomy, but there may come a time when it’s necessary for continued breathing. You may have respiratory weakness that can no longer be treated with a mask and non-invasive ventilation. You may also need a tracheostomy to help remove secretions form your airways. Join Lisa Wolfe, MD, for a pulmonologist’s breakdown on respiratory management for those with increased ventilation needs. Community resources will be shared. The Les Turner ALS Foundation is proud to offer this webinar at no cost to the ALS community. Thank you to the Gilbert & Jacqueline Fern Foundation and Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma America for sponsoring this webinar.

About the Speaker: Dr. Lisa Wolfe is a world-renowned pulmonologist at the Lois Insolia ALS Clinic at the Les Turner ALS Center at Northwestern Medicine, professor of medicine and neurology at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine, and a valued member and advocate for the ALS community. She is continuously inspired by and a strong believer in empowering patients and their families. Her inspiration comes from providing structure and options to patients and their families as a part of an integrated medical team that helps them from the initial diagnosis throughout the disease.
