I am Katherine Brooks

a family member in a familial ALS family,
living with ALS

Virginia

My family was complete and we were building a beautiful future when on October 27, 2020 our world turned upside down -- I was diagnosed with ALS.

I am 52 years old, a working wife, mother and Christian. In 2005 I adopted a beautiful baby girl from China, my only child, who is now 16. In 2014 I met the love ofd my life and we got married in July, 2017. My family was complete and we were building a beautiful future when on October 27, 2020 our world turned upside down — I was diagnosed with ALS.

I work full time and am my family’s primary source of income. As this disease progresses and I become unable to work, combined with ever growing medical bills, our family finances will take a huge hit. The worst part is knowing there is no cure, no way to slow progression and no hope to create a future — when it doesn’t have to be that way!

There are drugs in clinical trial that could extend or save my life. If only the FDA would grant emergency authorization for drugs such as Nurown. I desperately want to see my daughter graduate and be there for her at each step in life.
