In memory of Judy Perry
someone we've lost to ALS
North Carolina
We were unable to provide care in the home and had to place her in a skilled nursing facility, shortly after diagnosis.
Our mom was officially diagnosed in August 2021. Her symptoms initially presented 1-2 years prior. It began with a dropped foot. Then, weakness of the arms. Finally, complete deterioration of mobility. Her breathing was compromised but she didn’t make it to the point of being put on a ventilator. She didn’t lose her voice, but was almost intelligible at the end. We were unable to provide care in the home and had to place her in a skilled nursing facility, shortly after diagnosis. She remained there from Nov 2021-Dec 2023. She was the only person with ALS at the facility. She was transferred to a hospice facility the same day that her battle ended.
