He was truly my father, mentor, my hero!!!
My dad was a veteran of the US Navy during WWII. He served sonar on submarines.
After the war he worked 3 jobs (insurance, drove bus, & played pro basketball) before moving our family to Schenectady while working for Nationwide Insurance Co.
My dad dedicated his life to community service, helping to start up youth baseball leagues (both little league & babe ruth) & pop warner football.
He also became active in politics, serving as town republican chairman and on the County Board of Representatives. He also ran for but lost a seat on the NYS Assembly.
Soon thereafter, he suffered a heart attack requiring a quadruple bi-pass. And 10 years later he was diagnosed with ALS, never having the chance to reap the rewards of his life of service to his community. He was truly my father, mentor, my hero!!!
