I am Margo Kelly
a family member of someone we've lost to ALS,
someone who cared for a person we've lost to ALS
Indiana
Because of misdiagnosis and finding out she had ALS at a moderate/advanced stage, it went quick, too quick.
My name is Margo and I lost my mother in December of 2019 to ALS. I feel like if I had known more about ALS, I could have tried to help more and understand what was going on and brought more quality of life. I want to help other families grasp what is happening and come along and help those find less pain and more joy. It was a frustrating journey feeling like we had no help until it was almost too late.
I want to put an urgency into people’s ears and help to bring awareness. I was about to move to a new city and I heard the words, “you need to help be her caretaker.” Because of misdiagnosis and finding out she had ALS at a moderate/advanced stage, it went quick, too quick.
I look back now as a photographer/videographer and wish I could have documented the journey, but I was in shock and never found myself even picking up my camera. If I could help do that for others who can’t in the moment, I would feel so honored.
