I am Stephen Piscotty

a family member of someone we've lost to ALS

California

I think of her all the time, especially on the baseball field, and she will no doubt be on my mind on June 2nd for Lou Gehrig's day.

My name is Stephen Piscotty and I’m an outfielder for the Oakland A’s. ALS and baseball have touched my life in drastic ways. My mother Gretchen was diagnosed in 2017 and passed in 2018.

I was traded from my old team, the St. Louis Cardinals, in 2017 to the A’s so that I could be closer to my mom while she was ill. That trade was incredibly impactful, as it let me share all the final memories with my mom until the day she passed. I think of her all the time, especially on the baseball field, and she will no doubt be on my mind on June 2nd for Lou Gehrig’s day.

Our family has taken on the mission of working towards a cure through awareness and funding research. We miss her dearly but are doing all we can to help others who are diagnosed with this disease.
