I am Stephanie Lieber

a family member of someone we've lost to ALS

Illinois

Dad was diagnosed with ALS in 2015 just a year before the Cubs won the World Series.

My dad was a life-long Cubs fan. For many years he lived within walking distance of Wrigley Field and when he couldn’t be at the games live, he was watching on WGN. He and my mom instilled a love of the Cubbies in his three children that was been passed down to the next generation.

Dad was diagnosed with ALS in 2015 just a year before the Cubs won the World Series. My brothers and I schemed to get him to a game that joy-filled season, but the logistics of travel and wheelchairs made it too daunting. Instead, my brothers flew in and surprised him at his home in Florida to watch the World Series-clinching game with him. The following season, we brought a group of 12 to Florida to see the Cubs defeat the Miami Marlins closer to his home.
