I am Stacie Votaw

living with ALS

Maryland

**Stacie passed away in March of 2024. Below is her story in her own words.**

Up until my diagnosis in April 2021, I described myself as a lover of arts, a techie of sorts, a problem solver, and a fierce advocate.

But thanks to ALS, I no longer fit that description. Because in addition to all those characteristics, I can proudly add “ALS warrior” to the list.

For me, ALS is not the time to accept my fate and reminisce about who I was. It’s the opportunity to take my previously defined qualities and rely on them for strength. Because they, along with the support of others, will get me through this new challenge and allow me to use this experience to educate, inspire, and create progressive change for others.
