caring for someone living with ALS

Kentucky

The neurologist gave us the ALS diagnosis. We had an estate sale and sold the house.

I am the girlfriend of Tom Hutchinson who was diagnosed with ALS on June 17th, 2019 after several misdiagnoses. They thought at first he had carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel and had surgery to release them, but after no improvements through physical therapy, the doctor sent us to two other doctors for second opinions. They ran nerve tests, MRIs and a spinal tap. They said he may have MMN (multifocal motor neuropathy) and did three full IVIG (intravenous immunoglobulin) treatments with no improvement. The neurologist gave us the ALS diagnosis. We had an estate sale and sold the house. We were going to travel, but everything was constantly stopping us. As of January 2020, he is now completely wheelchair-bound. He is quickly decreasing in mobility.
