I am David McElveen

living with ALS

North Carolina

One of my favorite memories is playing catch with my young sons.

I have always loved the game of baseball, most especially when I coached my two boys for about a dozen years. One of my favorite memories is playing catch with my young sons. Another is when they were finally on the same team as 9th and 12th graders and I was able to coach them both.

When they played baseball in high school, I was their biggest fan in the stands! I also supported their team as the home game announcer.

I was diagnosed with ALS June of 2020, 3 months after my youngest son’s senior year of high school baseball was cut short due to the pandemic. On June 2, 2021, my sons took me to an Atlanta Braves game for the inaugural MLB Lou Gehrig game. Now we enjoy attending games for our local minor league teams. I also like catching some MLB games on television with my sons, daughters and wife.
