We Are Veterans. We Know How to Fight.

November 12, 2019  -  Guillermo "Gill" Garcia

When I was diagnosed with ALS I turned to my community for support. That community included my family, my friends, and my brothers and sisters who fought alongside me in the United States Armed Forces.

I am not alone. For still unknown reasons, those who have served in the military are twice as likely to develop ALS. So today, 1 in 6 ALS patients will have served in the military.

That is why we have been working so hard for more federal funding and are only a few steps away from doubling funding for a Department of Defense led ALS research program from $10 million to $20 million.

But we can’t stop there. We need you on our team now more than ever!

Above is a video that I am honored to be a part of. It includes me and 4 fellow veterans living with ALS. We represent an entire community that fought for our country and now fight for our lives. Being veterans, we understand the strength in numbers and know how to fight as one.

So, will you join us? Will you watch this video, share it, and then ask 5 of your friends to do the same?

Today, I may be fighting for my life. But I know I’m not alone. I have my family of service members, I have patients and veterans living with ALS like Norman, Yvette, Matt, and Gill by my side, and I now have you.

So watch out ALS. We’re coming for you.

Thank you for being in this fight. Thank you for being on this team.
