About the legislation

Proposed on
February 25, 2021

The AUTO for Veterans Act (S.444) will allow eligible disabled Veterans to receive a grant to help purchase a new adaptive vehicle once every ten years. Currently, disabled veterans are only ever eligible for one grant to help purchase a new car. This grant, roughly $22,300, covers anywhere from one-half to one-third of an adaptive vehicle’s cost. Their substantial cost causes financial hardship for many disabled veterans.
These grants are necessary as disabled veterans need access to adapted vehicles. Without reliable transportation, they are unable to leave their houses and go to medical appointments, visit family and friends, run errands, or travel for leisure and fun.
